Client Alert

Gary Born, Chair of the International Arbitration Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP and the world's leading authority on international arbitration and litigation, recently gave a talk at the Academie Voor de Rechtspraktijk, entitled "An Introduction to International Arbitration."

The lecture is available to watch here.

In the lecture, Mr. Born defines international arbitration and sets out its objectives. He details the legal framework for international commercial arbitration and delves into international arbitration agreements, international arbitral procedures, investor-state arbitration and state-state arbitration.

The lecture is an invaluable overview of the subject, aimed at those with little prior experience in international arbitration or those interested in a thorough and illuminating refresher course.

Mr. Born is the author of International Commercial Arbitration (2014 Kluwer Law International), which provides the most comprehensive available commentary on all aspects of the international commercial arbitration process. The second edition is now available in both hardcover and as an eBook.

The Academie Voor de Rechtspraktijk has produced a commemorative online magazine to mark Mr. Born's lecture. The magazine provides more insight into Mr. Born and his experience, and includes a link to a recent panel discussion, in which Mr. Born participated, on the US Supreme Court decision in BG Group v. Argentina.
