Andrea Weiss Jeffries Joins WilmerHale's Los Angeles Office

Firm News
WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Andrea Weiss Jeffries has joined its Los Angeles office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Ms. Jeffries—named in 2010 as one of the “100 Top Women Litigators” in California by the Daily Journal—brings deep experience handling complex patent litigation matters and adds to the growth and momentum of the firm’s LA office.

Ms. Jeffries was most recently a partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in LA, where she helped create and lead the firm’s Patent Litigation Practice Group. She joined Munger, Tolles in 1995 and became a partner in 2002.

Ms. Jeffries has represented clients in a range of cases involving diverse technologies, including computer memory, multi-threaded software, database technology, pharmaceutical formulations, medical devices and wireless communications. Ms. Jeffries has litigated patent cases in various jurisdictions across the country and has tried to verdict two significant patent infringement cases—one in the Northern District of California and one in the District of Delaware. She also has extensive experience representing clients in Markman hearings and numerous other pre- and post-trial proceedings.

“We are delighted to have Andrea join our IP litigation practice,” said William F. Lee, co-managing partner of WilmerHale. “Her patent litigation experience in a range of industries, combined with her particular expertise in the life sciences industry, strengthens the litigation and trial capabilities we offer our clients in Southern California and beyond.”

“Andrea’s outstanding reputation in the legal community and her entrepreneurial drive will be of tremendous value as we continue to build our Los Angeles office,” added Randall R. Lee, partner-in-charge of WilmerHale’s LA office.

WilmerHale’s IP Litigation Group includes leading patent, copyright and trademark litigation teams backed by the academic and industry experience of more than 160 lawyers and technology specialists with scientific or technical degrees. It has been recognized as one of the best IP litigation practices in the nation, named by The American Lawyer as the “Intellectual Property Litigation Group of the Year” in 2008, and, most recently, by Law360 as a 2010 “IP Group of the Year.”

WilmerHale’s LA office consists of 18 lawyers, including six partners, who focus on several practice areas that are core strengths of the firm—intellectual property litigation; SEC enforcement defense; government investigations and white collar defense; antitrust litigation; and other complex litigation and trial matters.

“WilmerHale’s reputation as a top-tier firm in IP litigation and its commitment to the growth of that practice in California made this a tremendous opportunity,” said Jeffries. “I’m excited to join the WilmerHale team and to have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the firm’s Los Angeles office.”

Ms. Jeffries received her BA in chemistry, magna cum laude, from Duke University, and her JD from Stanford Law School, where she was a member of the Stanford Law Review and co-chairperson of Women of Stanford Law. Following law school, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Harry L. Hupp of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Ms. Jeffries is a member of the Los Angeles County and Federal Circuit Bar Associations.
