Her practice focuses on plans sponsored by universities and colleges as well as those sponsored by other nonprofit organizations and for-profit entities throughout the country. Ms. Wakino is an active speaker at the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) on employee benefits.
Ms. Wakino has particular experience in employment tax and withholding issues for for-profit and tax-exempt organizations, including the treatment of litigation settlements, scholarships and fellowships and fringe benefits. In numerous instances, Ms. Wakino has represented clients before governmental agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service and US Department of Labor, in audits, rulings and disputes.
