John Greenwald is a partner in the Regulatory and Government Affairs Department, and a member of the International Trade, Investment and Market Access Practice Group. Mr. Greenwald has a general international practice, with particular emphasis on international trade matters.

Practice

Mr. Greenwald represents various clients in matters arising under the trade laws of the United States, the Commission of the European Communities and other foreign jurisdictions. He also advises and represents various clients on trade legislation in Congress and/or trade policy issues under review in the Executive branch of the US government. In a recent survey of in-house counsel and practitioners, Mr. Greenwald was voted one of the five top trade lawyers in Washington.

In 1974, after a year in private practice, Mr. Greenwald became an attorney in the Office of the US Trade Representative and later served as Deputy General Counsel of that office. In 1980 and 1981, he served as the first head of the Commerce Department’s Import Administration, where he was responsible for the administration of the US antidumping and countervailing duty laws. Prior to law school, Mr. Greenwald served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.

Professional Activities

Mr. Greenwald is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law School in Washington, DC, teaching international trade law.
