WilmerHale combines a preeminent antitrust agency practice with one of the leading antitrust litigation practices in the country. Our Boston and Washington antitrust practices have both received top ranking from Chambers USA. We have more than 50 years’ experience helping our clients achieve their business objectives in virtually every major industry: from aviation, defense and aerospace to retail and wholesale distribution; from financial services, information technology and life sciences to manufacturing and petrochemicals; and from media and entertainment, publishing and telecommunications to transportation. Our counsel and representation regularly handles the protection of clients’ stake in intellectual property. Further information on intellectual property litigation is available on this page.

Our strong European competition practices give us a unique capability to handle large, multinational transactions and parallel investigations in the US and the EU. We also have developed the experience and international relationships to coordinate merger clearances and cartel investigations in many countries around the world.

Some recent matters include:

  • Representing a major investment bank in the Supreme Court successfully arguing that implied immunity under the securities laws barred antitrust claims alleging that underwriters conspired to impose certain anticompetitive charges on investors in exchange for allocations in so-called "hot" IPOs.
  • Representing a major insurance carrier in securing dismissal of all antitrust and RICO claims in the massive In re Insurance Brokerage Antitrust Litigation.
  • Securing Federal Trade Commission clearance for Millennium Pharmaceuticals in connection with its $8.8 billion sale to Takeda – the largest overseas acquisition ever by a Japanese drug manufacturer.
  • Obtaining a substantial downward departure for "exemplary cooperation” on behalf of a major Norwegian shipping company in a US antitrust grand jury investigation and negotiating favorable settlements as a result in the follow-on private antitrust class actions.
