Jason D. Kipnis

Retired Partner

Jason Kipnis focused his practice on complex intellectual property matters, advising clients on portfolio management, litigation and enforcement strategy, dispute counseling, and IP‑related audits and due diligence. His work spanned trade secret protection, standards and open‑source counseling, international IP rights management, and identifying and acquiring third‑party intellectual property. He advised clients at all stages of development across a wide range of technologies, including computer architecture, software, semiconductor design and fabrication, optics, networking and telecommunications, biotechnology, and medical devices. His ability to integrate legal and technical considerations made him a trusted resource on both strategic and operational IP challenges before retiring from WilmerHale in 2023.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Kipnis worked as a consultant at Oracle Corporation, where he designed and implemented database applications. He was admitted to practice before the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the US District Courts for the Northern District of California and the Eastern District of Texas. A frequent speaker on intellectual property issues, he served as an adjunct lecturer at Stanford Law School, teaching IP Strategy for High Technology Companies, and held leadership roles in nonprofit arts organizations.
